Hodgkin, Gurney and Fife Houses, Student Accommodation, Windsor Terrace, Newcastle

Client; Newcastle University Project Value: £1,114,214.36 Contract Duration: June 2012 – September 2012

This project involved the refurbishment and upgrading of forty, six-bed student flats within Newcastle University’s Student Accommodation portfolio for the Estates Services Department. They are within close proximity to the University Library and the University campus and is a popular choice for many of their students as it is only a five-minute walk from the city’s shops, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. The accommodation provides shared kitchen/lounge in six-bedroom flats with entry phone systems and all kitchen/lounges were to be upgraded to suit modern student requirements. Our package included complete new gas central heating systems, which required the installation of new gas mains to all three buildings, the replacement of all sanitaryware and the provision of new floor finishes to all areas including the 10 storey staircases which also were upgraded and corridor lighting improved. Also within our scope of works were the removal of all the existing kitchens and the reconfiguring of the layouts to take 40 new communal kitchens and complete redecoration to all areas..
