Northumberland Golf Club, Gosforth Park, Newcastle upon Tyne
Client: Northumberland Golf Club Project Value: £594,000.00:Contract Duration: 20 weeks
The Northumberland Golf Club was formed in 1898 and is one of the oldest in the North East. It was created on land leased from High Gosforth Park which is now on the border of the City of Newcastle and the Metropolitan Borough of North Tyneside but at the time firmly within the County of Northumberland.
The present clubhouse is just over 100 years old, built in 1913, and sits in woodland with a stunning view out over the race course and the rest of High Gosforth Park once home to the Brandling family. Our work involved substantial alterations and extensions to upgrade and modernise the facilities of the clubhouse and included a new secretary’s office, a viewing area to the lounge and the refurbishment of changing areas, showers and locker rooms. All of the work had to be carried out whilst maintaining full facilities for the club members and without affecting the day-to-day operations of the golf club.
The single storey extensions were designed to complement the existing structure whilst providing modern facilities and our work required the careful demolition of existing lounge frontage, installation of structural steel work and the construction of new glazed frontage to provide the exciting new viewing area. By extending the lounge a terrace was created which overlooks the 18th green..
