Northumbrian Water – Refurbishment Scientific Laboratories.

Northumberland Dock Road, Howdon, North Tyneside

Client: Northumbrian Water Scientific Services Project Value: £2,272,743 Contract Duration: October 2011 – March 2012

We competitively tendered and carried out the extension which involved the remodeling and refurbishment of the Northumbrian Water Scientific Services [NWSS] Building in Howdon, North Tyneside. NWSS is one of the UK’s leading environmental service providers and our works were programmed to allow their operations and experiments to continue throughout the construction phase. The building is “home” to over 100 staff at any one time and clear segregation of our operations from operational areas was critical to the projects successful outcome along with careful phasing to ensure that NWSS business processes and procedures could continue day-to-day with minimal disruption.

This included retention of the existing fire detection and alarm installations to operational parts of the building during the works. The sensitive nature of the clients  environmental work meant that stringent measures had to be taken to minimise the  impact of our construction activities which included the installation of; temporary works, intelligent lighting systems, IT services, air handling units, VRF pumped heating and cooling systems, fire and security alarms, PA systems, fume cupboards, modifications to incoming services and laboratory equipment.
