Client: The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Project Value: £816, 257.07 Contract Duration: June 2013 – October 2013
The Freeman Hospital is an 800 bed referral centre in High Heaton which delivers a wide range of advanced, patient focused healthcare for Newcastle, the North East and beyond. Managed by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, it is also a teaching hospital for Newcastle University. We were selected based upon our reputation and positive approach to the problems this challenging project presented which included the demolition and total refurbishment of Ward 29 which involved overcoming difficult access arrangements within the very busy hospital environment to install a new steel frame supported roof top plant room for mechanical and electrical equipment. The refurbishment of Ward 29 included strip out works and renewal of all surface finishes, full replacement window programme, full electrical and mechanical services and final decoration, refurbishment and reconfiguration of the original ward layout. The Hospital remained operational throughout the entire contract period and great care was taken to ensure that its day to day running remained unaffected by the works. We also manufacturered and supplied all the bespoke joinery items and the reception station at our own joinery and carpentry works in North Tyneside .
